曲への想い
冷戦時代のチェス大会を背景に、
恋愛と政治の駆け引きを描いたミュージカル
1986年ウェストエンドでの初演以来、
世界各国で上演されているABBAの二人による作品
日本では、2015年
中川晃教、安蘭けい、石井一孝らのキャストで演じられている
Anthemは、
ロシア人のアナトリーが国を捨てイギリスに移住することを決意する鎮魂歌
詩はどこまでもピュアで、
母国をおもう気持ちがTim Riceによって見事に表現されている。
この歌を知ったのは、オーストラリアでのオリジナルファントム、
アンソニー・ワーローのアルバムから
その後、2008年
ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールでの Chess in Concertで歌った
ジョシュ・グローバン (Josh Groban)によるAnthemが秀悦
その表現に近づけられないかと取り組んだ
ハイ・バリトンでも十分こなせる音域で、
高音の維持もそうきつくないが
課題は長くそして力強い発声で続く高温の部分を
どうやって聞いている人に心地よく響かせて聞かせるか
そこに集約される
